Day Trip out to the Quabbin
We took a ride out to the Quabbin today via Route 32A … Parked at gate 40 and walked quite a ways in.
It was a nice peaceful walk but the horseflies and the mosquitos were not very kind. Rob found a tick on his back the next day. Definately will be more careful next time. Bug spray will be used, also. We jogged off and on back to the car just to get away from the bugs! The exercise felt refreshing since we haven’t done so all winter and spring. It inspired me to start doing more exercise!
At the beginning of the walk there were rare protected wildflowers along the brush…Lady Slippers! ![]()
Click here to see larger photo of these Lady Slippers.
As we walked further, we saw the old Apple Orchard we read about.
Then we kept going to try to find some of the old house foundations………
Here is one….
We continued until we got to a trail off the main walkway that led us to a small clearing near the water…
We saw people walking by with fishing poles a few times. ![]()
We stopped along side the road on the way back in the car at this East Quabbin Land trust site near Hardwick, MA

We had a nice ride, beautiful day it was too. Next time we are going to find gate 29 which we read about in Yankee Magazine.

There are so many photographic opportunities at the Quabbin!!
